THREAD MATERIALS & PRODUCTS

Thread Materials & Products

Understand the main thread materials NEXUS works with, how bonded nylon differs from bonded polyester, and where waxed thread fits into different sewing applications.

What is bonded nylon thread?

Bonded nylon thread is a synthetic sewing thread designed for applications that require a combination of tensile strength, abrasion resistance and flexibility. It is commonly used for leather goods, footwear, bags, upholstery, canvas and other demanding sewing applications. The right size and construction still depend on the material, stitch requirement and sewing equipment.

Yes. The core NEXUS bonded nylon range is made from Nylon 6.6, also known as Polyamide 6.6. The main current size system includes Tex 70, Tex 90, Tex 135, Tex 210 and Tex 270. These sizes cover different stitch profiles and sewing requirements rather than serving as one universal thread size.

Bonded nylon is commonly selected where strength, abrasion resistance and flexibility are important. Bonded polyester is generally better suited to applications exposed to prolonged UV and outdoor weather. Neither material is automatically better for every project, so the actual sewing environment and performance requirement should guide the choice.

Bonded polyester is worth considering when the sewn product will face prolonged sunlight, outdoor weather or similar long-term UV exposure. Bonded nylon remains suitable for many indoor and abrasion-intensive sewing applications. Material selection should be based on the real use environment rather than assuming that one thread material is always better.

Yes. NEXUS supplies waxed thread for sewing applications where a waxed construction is preferred, including leathercraft and hand-stitching uses. Waxed thread is different from the main machine-sewing bonded nylon range, so the appropriate product depends on the sewing method, material and desired stitch result.

Bonding helps keep the plied strands of sewing thread together and reduce strand separation during sewing. Its purpose is to improve thread stability and support smoother sewing performance. Bonded-thread construction can vary, including internal bonding, outside bonding and combinations of internal and outside bonding. The appropriate construction depends on the thread specification and intended sewing application.

Internal bonding places the bonding effect within or between the plied thread structure. Outside bonding applies bonding material around the exterior of the thread to help keep the strands together and reduce strand separation during sewing. These are different thread constructions rather than a simple better-or-worse ranking, and the suitable option depends on the sewing requirement.

The fiber material affects how a bonded thread feels and behaves during sewing. Flexibility, elasticity, hand feel, stitch appearance and abrasion behavior can vary between Nylon 6.6, Nylon 6 and polyester. Nylon constructions generally have more flexibility and elongation than polyester, while polyester has a firmer material character. The appropriate fiber should be selected according to the application and sewing environment rather than by material name alone.

Yes. Wax level can be reviewed according to the intended sewing requirement. A project may call for a lighter or heavier wax feel depending on the thread construction, material and sewing method. Adjustment is subject to the actual waxed-thread specification and project review rather than assuming that every construction can be modified without limits.

Not always. Hand sewing and machine sewing can require different thread feel, wax level, construction and sewing behavior. NEXUS reviews the intended sewing method, material and desired smoothness when discussing a suitable waxed-thread specification.

TEX SIZE & THREAD SELECTION

Tex Size & Thread Selection

Learn how Tex sizing works, how NEXUS maps common commercial thread sizes, and what factors should be considered when choosing the right thread for a sewing project.

What does Tex mean in sewing thread?

Tex is a linear-density measurement used to describe thread size. A higher Tex number represents a heavier thread. In practical sewing, changing the Tex size also affects stitch appearance, needle requirements and machine compatibility, so thread selection should not be based on strength alone.

These are commonly used commercial thread-size designations that correspond to the NEXUS Tex range:

  • Tex 70 = #69
  • Tex 90 = #92
  • Tex 135 = #138
  • Tex 210 = #207
  • Tex 270 = #277

NEXUS uses both naming systems because customers may identify thread by either Tex size or commercial size number.

The current main NEXUS Bonded Nylon 6.6 range includes Tex 70, Tex 90, Tex 135, Tex 210 and Tex 270. These sizes provide a progression from finer professional sewing to heavier and more visible stitch requirements.

Choose the Tex size according to the application, material construction, required seam performance, desired stitch appearance and sewing equipment. A larger thread is not automatically the better choice. The correct size should balance the material, seam requirement and machine capability.

Yes. You do not need to know the Tex size before asking for guidance. Information such as what you are sewing, the material, the desired stitch appearance and the sewing equipment available can help narrow down which thread sizes are appropriate to compare.

Yes. NEXUS can review custom thread requirements including thread size, construction, twist, lubrication and other specification-related requirements. Feasibility depends on the actual application, sample and technical target, so custom specifications are reviewed project by project rather than treated as unlimited adjustments.

Yes. Thread twist, often expressed as TPM, varies according to the thread specification, construction and intended application. Twist can influence thread structure, stitch appearance and subsequent processing such as dyeing. NEXUS does not use one TPM value for every thread size, so specific twist requirements should be reviewed against the relevant product or development requirement.

Lubrication affects how thread moves through the needle and sewing system. The appropriate lubrication level can influence sewing smoothness, friction, heat generated during stitching and overall machine performance. Different thread sizes, machines and applications may require different lubrication conditions, so NEXUS does not treat one oiling level as a universal standard for every product.

COLOR & CUSTOMIZATION

Color & Customization

Find answers about NEXUS thread colors, physical color references, custom color requirements, lead times and thread specification customization.

How many thread colors does NEXUS offer?

NEXUS offers 70+ color options across its current thread color system. Availability can vary by thread material and Tex size, so the required product, size and color combination should be confirmed before ordering.

Yes. Screen brightness, display calibration, photography and lighting can affect how thread colors appear online. For color-sensitive projects, a physical color reference is more reliable than relying only on a digital image.

Yes. NEXUS supports custom colors for regular thread specifications. Custom color requirements are reviewed according to the requested thread specification and the color reference provided before production is arranged.

The confirmed NEXUS minimum order quantity for a custom color is 10 units. This rule applies specifically to custom color requirements and should not be treated as the MOQ for every standard retail or B2B order.

Yes. The confirmed additional custom color fee is USD 50. This is the extra charge for developing the custom color and is separate from the product quantity, shipping and any other project-specific costs.

NEXUS can work from a physical sample, image reference or Pantone color reference. A physical sample usually provides a more direct reference than a screen image, but the appropriate option depends on what is available for the project.

The standard confirmed lead time for a custom color is 10 days. For urgent requirements, a custom order may be ready for dispatch on the third day after order confirmation. This refers to production readiness for dispatch, not guaranteed delivery within three days.

No. Nylon and polyester require different dyeing systems and processing conditions because they are different fiber materials. Polyester bonded thread generally requires higher-temperature dyeing conditions, while nylon bonded thread uses lower-temperature dyeing conditions. NEXUS handles its core thread production directly, while dyeing is completed by specialist external dyeing partners according to the material and color requirements.

Custom products are non-returnable because they are produced for a specific requirement. This does not apply in the same way if NEXUS supplies the wrong product or wrong color, or if the shipment arrives damaged. Those situations are handled through the relevant after-sales process.

TESTING, QUALITY & CERTIFICATIONS

Testing, Quality & Certifications

Learn what technical testing information NEXUS can provide, how product data should be interpreted, and how quality management and certification information support product and sourcing decisions.

Does NEXUS provide tensile strength testing data?

Yes. NEXUS maintains internal tensile testing data for multiple Bonded Nylon 6.6 specifications, including Tex 70, Tex 90, Tex 135, Tex 207 and Tex 277, with additional reports available in the project records. Each report reflects a specific tested sample, batch and test condition, so the results should be used as product evidence rather than treated as a permanent guarantee for every production batch.

Depending on the product and specification, available technical information can include thread material, Tex size, tensile test data, elongation data, needle guidance and other confirmed product specifications. Where testing data is provided, it should be understood in the context of the specific sample, batch and test condition rather than as a universal value for every future order.

Yes. NEXUS maintains internal elongation data for multiple Bonded Nylon 6.6 specifications. As with tensile testing, individual results are specific to the tested sample, batch and test conditions and should not be interpreted as a permanent performance guarantee for every production batch.

Yes. Business customers can request relevant product specifications, internal testing information or other supporting documentation when available for the product and purchasing requirement. The exact documents that can be provided depend on the thread specification, order requirement and intended use of the information.

NEXUS has confirmed ISO 9001 and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification information in its company records. Certification should always be understood according to the actual certificate scope, applicable product or process, and current documentation. It should not be assumed that every NEXUS product automatically carries every certification.

Useful inputs can include an existing thread sample, fiber or material type, Tex or thread size, application, color reference, stitch requirement and relevant machine or needle information. If tensile performance, twist, lubrication or another technical characteristic is important, include that requirement as well. NEXUS uses these inputs to evaluate the thread more accurately rather than relying only on a product name.

VERIFICATION & TRACKING

Pre-Shipment Verification & Order Tracking

Learn how NEXUS provides additional visibility into actual products before dispatch and how shipment tracking works after an order has been sent.

What is NEXUS pre-shipment verification?

Pre-shipment verification gives customers additional visibility into the actual order being prepared before dispatch. Depending on the order, this may include the actual products, colors, order composition and shipment preparation. Its purpose is to provide real product evidence before shipment, not to promise zero error or zero risk.

Yes, for applicable orders NEXUS can provide order-specific product photos or verification information before dispatch. This helps connect the confirmed order details with the physical products being prepared rather than relying only on catalog images or product descriptions.

Yes. Actual thread colors can be shown in pre-shipment verification where applicable. However, photography, lighting and screen settings can affect how a physical thread color appears digitally, so verification images should not be treated as an exact screen-to-product color guarantee.

No. Pre-shipment verification improves visibility into the actual product and color being prepared, but a digital image cannot guarantee that every screen will reproduce the physical thread color exactly. For color-sensitive projects, physical references remain the more reliable basis for comparison.

Tracking information is provided after the order has been dispatched and the selected logistics service supports shipment tracking. Carrier systems may take some time to display the first update, and tracking status is controlled by the logistics provider after dispatch.

You can use the NEXUS Order Verification & Tracking page and enter the tracking number provided after dispatch. Shipment updates come from the logistics carrier, so update frequency and transit information can vary by carrier and destination.

After dispatch, NEXUS may provide shipment details including the tracking number, tracking link, shipment photos and packing information depending on the order. Tracking updates are then provided by the logistics carrier and may take some time to appear after dispatch.
